About Mary Bieda, M.S., LPC
Dr. Helene Stoller
Licensed Psychologist
& Practice Owner
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Pastoral Counselor.
My Bachelor's Degree is in Psychology from the University of Hawaii
and I have a Master of Science Degree in Pastoral Counseling from
Loyola College in Maryland.  I have also completed a nine month
Certificate Program in Trauma Treatment from the University of
Maryland School of Social Work in Baltimore..
In 1988 I began my career working as an addictions counselor.  While working as a
student in my master's program, I did an internship at Hospice where I worked with
bereaved individuals and families and facilitated support groups for those who had lost
loved ones through illness, suicide or homicide.  For several years I worked as a
therapist for chemically dependent and/or mentally ill women in a long term residential
treatment facility in Maryland.  As Clinical Director I designed the clinical program that is
still in practice today.

In 2005 I joined a pastoral counseling practice where I worked until moving to South
Carolina with my husband in 2008.  While in that practice, I treated individuals with grief,
loss, addictions, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues,
anger and ADHD.  I also treated individuals with spiritual issues that often accompany
life transitions.  Working as a pastoral counselor, I facilitated a group for adults who had
been abused by clergy.  That group was endorsed by the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

My specialty now is working with individuals, couples or families who are looking for a
renewed sense of purpose in life following grief/loss issues, addiction, or difficult
transitions.  I am always in awe of the courage it takes to break out of patterns that no
longer work in one's life, and to establish more positive ones.

I believe that each client is a unique person with his or her own inner strengths and
wisdom.  As a therapist, I believe it is my job to assist people in re-connecting with their
strengths and wisdom so that they can make good decisions and choices in their lives.
My approach to counseling is strength-based.  I use cognitive behavioral therapies and
am a proponent of mind-body approaches that help clients tune in to the wisdom of their
own bodies.  I enjoy working with adults and elderly clients and am a member of The
National Center for Creative Aging.

In my personal life, my husband and I have been married for 36 years and have three
adult children and four young grandchildren, with another one on the way.  We also
have a little miniature dachshund named Reggie.  I enjoy reading, writing and making
jewelry.
